Rotarian
Sandy Taylor (right), manager, Bath Scotiabank, presented a cheque for
$1,000. to president Valerie Carmichael (left) at the Aug. 15 Club
meeting. The Scotiabank Employee Volunteer Program (SEVP) provides
financial assistance to qualifying organizations in which employees
have been active participants for at least one year. Employees must
have at least 50 hours of service within the last twelve months working
as an unpaid officer, director, volunteer, fund raiser or organizer.
Sandy Taylor was a successful applicant who met all these prerequisites. The
Florenceville Rotary Club provides funds for many local projects; such
as, scholarships, curl for cancer, Adventures in Citizenship, School
Band and Choir, Bath Manor, sending Disadvantaged Children to
Camp Rotary, music festivals, local initiatives and many other
projects. The Florenceville Rotary Club is also committed to global
projects – clean water, polio plus, shelter boxes, needs of third world
countries – to name a few. Rotarians expressed appreciation to Rotarian
Sandy with a round of applause and also acknowledged the generosity of
Scotiabank.

ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
Four
of our members participated in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge prior to
our meeting Monday night (September 8). Thanks to Wallace for providing
the bucket!

meeting and the winner is....Dale McIntosh!

On Jan. 16,
2014 our President, Garth Hatheway attend a meeting of the Club Rotario el Dorado,
Panama by invitation of the President of that club, Jose Gonzalez Chea. He is the gentleman on the far right.
Garth Hatheway, president of the Rotary Club of Florenceville, is the man in the
middle. The man on the extreme left is Jose Rafael Bolanos, District Governor
for Costa Rica, Panama, Nicaragua and El Salvador. He was the guest speaker for
the meeting.

A good time was had by all! 
The
Rotary Club participates in the “Reaching Out to Read”
program in conjunction with Horizon Health Volunteers and Talk With Me
to give each child that comes to the Immunization Clinic in
Florenceville an age appropriate book. The clinic is held
once a
month at Faith Memorial United Church, Florenceville-Bristol.
The
Rotary Club provides the books for the children and recruit volunteers
to encourage reading to pre-schoolers while at the clinic. If
you
wish to volunteer call Lorena Green (276-4870) or e-mail rgreen@nb.sympatico.ca
